The introduction of a knife amnesty would be an operational policing decision. The MPS have a focused deterrence approach to gun and knife crime, using the wide range of tactics available to them to address and target violent offenders.

We would consider a knife amnesty as one element of a multi-agency and multi-focus response alongside the enforcement, intervention and prevention activities that are set out in the London Crime Reduction Board's (LCRB) Strategic Ambitions for London: Gangs and Serious Youth Violence.
