British Transport Police (BTP) now have authorised firearms officers and as such provide armed police officers at rail termini in London. The BTP Chief Officer (and by delegation, the BTP Firearms Lead) is responsible for such authorisation.

A signed agreement also exists which sets Cross Boundary Operating Protocols for the deployment and command of armed officers from both The City of London Police (CoLP) and the MPS within such British Transport Police jurisdiction.

This caters for situations where the armed response required exceeds BTP capability or where CoLP or MPS armed officers are better placed to respond.

Firearms are only authorised when this is operationally necessary.
