The vehicle categories recorded in the police collision report book (STATS 19) are defined by the Department of Transport (DfT) as this is a national form used by all police forces in the country.  Currently rickshaws/pedicabs fall within the category of pedal cycles.  TfL has an agreement with the Metropolitan and City of London Police that where a rickshaw/pedicab is involved in a collision this is recorded in the free text field describing how the collision occurred.  This allows for the identification of collisions involving these vehicles.

The DfT reviews the STATS 19 variables every five years and it has been requested in the past that rickshaw/pedicab be added as a separate category.  TfL will continue to ask for these to be added at future reviews, but in the meantime has to rely on them being recorded as locally agreed variables in the text field.
