Question

Are you concerned that nationally one million working days are being lost costing £100 million to the UK economy, due to a lack of holiday childcare forcing parents out of work. On average in London 25 hours nursery childcare costs £140.12, how will the London Childcare fund address this?

The additional funding provided through the London Childcare Fund is aimed at expanding the provision for two, three and four-year olds, with particular attention on increasing the number of providers that offer provision for disadvantaged two-year olds by using other spaces more efficiently. Further details on the DfE guidance to local authorities is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ministerial-letter-about-early-years-funding-for-london-councils.

I will continue to work with DfE and London Councils to explore ways in which the GLA can support local authorities to increase supply of affordable childcare.
