I understand there is a desire to provide a signal controlled pedestrian crossing on Brixton Water Lane but following investigations by TfL Signal Engineers, I can confirm that is not possible to do this.

To avoid potential conflict between pedestrians and vehicles, the only option would be to hold all traffic movements on a red light to allow pedestrians to cross Brixton Water Lane safely.  This would have a severe impact on all traffic, but particularly on buses.

TfL has suggested installing a new signal controlled staggered crossing over Effra Road, as this is the road that is currently the most difficult for pedestrians to cross. At present, TfL is awaiting a formal submission and a confirmed funding source, before being able to proceed.

I believe since asking this question you have met with TfL officers, who have given you a full brief of the circumstances surrounding this crossing and a site meeting with these officers has also been arranged.
