I will be responding to this consultation and will make clear a number of concerns that I have regarding Heathrow's noise mitigation and compensation regime.

More than 1 million people will be exposed to potentially harmful levels of noise from a third runway at Heathrow. By contrast a new airport in the Thames Estuary would affect a fraction of this number of people (31,500 people or 3.15 per cent).  We should not be looking to fudge the planning errors of the past through compensation payments when there is a credible alternative right under our noses.
