There are 125,055 cancelled rest days to re-roster across the MPS as of September 2014.

This is slightly higher than earlier in the year, but this is typical of summer when aid commitments tend to rise and annual leave means the available pool of officers is smaller.

A review has been previously undertaken by the MPS that looked at a wide range of influences on rest day cancellations, including public order demand, aid commitments, public order resourcing, rostering, application of Police Regulations, resilience and planning.

A further review has been commissioned by the MPS to specifically study cancelled rest days and resilience among Inspecting and above ranks.

Furthermore, a number of features of the Local Policing Model are aimed at reducing the requirement to cancel rest days, especially in relation to public order requirements.
