One of the core aims of my own energy programmes is to mitigate the risk and the impact of the potential capacity shortfall which could result in energy blackouts:

My retrofit programmes, notably RE:NEW and RE:FIT, will reduce demand for energy in buildings.

My energy supply programmes focus on supporting London based generation through my decentralised energy programme that can contribute to meeting any shortfalls in upstream generating capacity.

The central aim of the Smart Grid programmes I am involved in such as Low Carbon London is to reduce and shift demand at peak times.

Through my Cities Summit event and the challenge I posted on Citymart's website I am now working with a company called Kiwi Power to enable householders and small businesses to shift their energy use away from peak time and benefit from cheaper electricity.
