No. A new hub airport remains the only option that can meet London and the UK's long-term aviation connectivity needs. It also has the added benefit of addressing the unacceptable, and extremely harmful environmental problems associated with Heathrow.

The Airports Commission's decision not to shortlist an Inner Thames Estuary option does not warrant the idea's dismissal. It remains a credible, affordable, and deliverable scheme, with tremendous advantages. The Commission's work is deeply flawed. They are too focussed on the options for adding one new runway at an existing airport, and have made their decision on the basis of highly questionable cost estimates.

It is important to remember that the Airports Commission are not the ultimate decision maker. They are simply making a recommendation which they will put to the Government of the day at the end of next summer.
