I am aware that from October 1st 2014, the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, will be amended so that schools can hold their own stock of inhalers for use in emergencies.

I welcome this change in the law that was unanimously supported by parents and schools, and is intended to prevent deaths from asthma. I am aware that the Department of Health will be issuing non-statutory guidance to schools in England to support schools in their management of inhalers.

Local authorities across London, who have responsibility for public health in each borough, have the opportunity to send additional information to schools as they deem appropriate.
