Question

The Government are proposing to introduce a new permitted development right to convert light industrial buildings and storage and distribution buildings to residential use. Do you agree that this could threaten strategic and locally important industrial locations in London, and if so will you seek their protection in your response to the technical consultation on planning?

While I place a high priority on increasing housing output, I have raised concerns with the Government's proposal as I believe it may put at risk the existing strategic supply of industrial floorspace important to London's economy.  I have robust policies in place in the London Plan to manage the release of surplus industrial land.
