Question

I recently wrote to TfL asking them to consider introducing One Hour Free Parking at Wickham Road Parades in Shirley, Croydon. Was this considered as part of your 'Stop and Shop' manifesto pledge, and what is your opinion on the introduction of this?

I understand TfL has written to you directly about this and explained that there is already free 1 hour parking, along with additional 30 minute parking bays, in the local area.  For example, on the red route section of Ridgemount Avenue and the parade to the east of the Shirley Inn (178 to 186 Wickham Road), there is free 1 hour parking from Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm.

When taking account of parking on the sections of local side roads under TfL's remit, 50 per cent of the available parking allows up to 1 hour of free parking.

The 30 minute bays seek to balance the needs of customers, while ensuring a quicker turnover of available spaces, which benefits retailers. In addition, some spaces are allocated specifically for loading and unloading activities by delivery vehicles and the collection of large items. Overall, we consider there is a good balance of provision in this area.

My manifesto pledge was to increase the time of 20 minute stop and shop parking bays on the TfL Road Network to 30 minutes. I have already delivered on this pledge, in consultation with the boroughs.
