As a result of EU legislation, car manufacturers have been required to reveal many security details and electronic design features of their vehicles. Over the past 4 years, the MPS has been working closely with vehicle manufacturers and insurers to combat "car-hacking" i.e. cars' engines being started without a key. Analysis has highlighted one car manufacturer as particularly vulnerable and law enforcement has worked with that manufacturer to identify and remedy the problem. The vulnerability has been designed out in new cars, and the manufacturer has embarked on programme to notifiy the owners at risk.

The MPS continues to analysis trends and work with manufacturers to highlight vulnerabilities so that technological solutions can be developed.
