Recent media reports suggest that the cost of a firearms licence covers only a quarter of what it costs the police to run the licensing scheme, costing the police service £17m a year to cover the shortfall. Could you break down by year, since 2008 how much firearms licencing has cost the MPS?

The net costs of the Firearms Licencing team within the Armed Policing Unit are as follows:

2008/09 - £3.4M

2009/10 - £3.4M

2010/11 - £3.4M

2011/12 - £3.5M

2012/13 - £3.5M
