Question

Given that those opposing any increase in airport capacity have failed, is it fair to say that the only options on the table are expanding Heathrow, expanding Gatwick and building a new airport on the Isle of Grain?

These are the options that remain on the table as far as the Airports Commission are concerned. The Government are yet to make a formal comment on the Commission's decision to rule out all but these options, and they do not have to accept the Commission's final recommendations in the Summer of 2015.

My view is that the expansion of Heathrow is unacceptable, and the expansion of Gatwick will not meet our needs. London and the UK need an new, effective hub airport. I will be working hard to support the work of the Airports Commission in the coming months, as they decide whether to add an Inner Thames Estuary solution to their shortlist in September this year.
