The MPS does not keep a record of proactively seized dogs. However the total number of dogs seized (by financial year) are detailed below:

2009-2010                            1219 dogs

2010-2011                            1143 dogs

2011-2012                            982 dogs

2012-2013                            979 dogs

2013 to date`                            972 dogs

This corresponds with the decrease in the number of crimes involving dogs which has reduced by 25% over the same period of time.

The MPS currently have 275 dogs in their kennels awaiting court hearings, return to their owners or destruction.
