The most recent figures published by the Skills Funding Agency are for 2012/13, when there were 45,070 apprenticeship starts in London. Meeting the target of 250,000 starts by 2016 will be challenging but diverse activity is planned for the coming years. The LEP has committed £1m to fund a marketing campaign in spring 2014. I will continue to lobby the Government to double the AGE grant for London SMEs, and to maintain an adequate Government apprenticeship service. The LEP will work with Government through the Growth Deal process to ensure adequate funding for apprenticeships in London is made available. I will continue to generate apprenticeship opportunities within the GLA Group's supply chain.  I have already written personally to over 200 London companies about apprenticeships and will continue corresponding with London firms about apprenticeships. I am also actively scoping out new opportunities to engage with businesses and other stakeholders, and will continue to support the work of NAS and other apprenticeship champions.

I have also introduced an Apprentice Oyster photocard to provide apprentices with discount travel in London.
