Question

Are you embarrassed that, even though fires have fallen by 64% over the last ten years, fire deaths have actually increased by 8% since you became Mayor in 2008?

This is completely wrong.

There were 82 fire deaths in 2003/04 and 47 in 2012/13, which is a 44 per cent reduction in fire deaths - 37 fewer deaths.  The measure for fire deaths that LFEPA agreed to use as a headline target is a ten year average which was 67 in 2007/08 (the year before I became Mayor) and 55 in 2012/13, which is a reduction of 18 per cent.
