My office has have been encouraging all of London's water companies, but particularly Thames Water, to meet the metering challenge set out in my Water Strategy. Thames Water have committed to a 'progressive' metering programme, which aims to meter all properties by 2030. The delay in this target relates to two challenges: Firstly, Ofwat did not approve Thames Waters' metering programme until 2013 - four years after their business plan was originally submitted. Secondly, the technology to cost effectively meter individual flats does not yet exist. We have challenged Thames Water to find a solution to this problem.
