Why are you apparently ignoring the victims of July 7th bombing by refusing to contribute a mere £5,000 for this year's memorial service?

City Hall officials held discussions with the Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball Foundation for Peace after their £150k lottery grant to support its Survivors for Peace programme ended. Of the £150,000 national grant about £5,000 was used to support a London event - the annual July 7th memorial service in Hyde Park. That's why we were talking with the Foundation.

As I said at the time, the wishes of the 7/7 families are what matters here, and if the families want to continue with the memorial event in Hyde Park, then of course I will help to fund that event, and I've made that clear to the Foundation.

Equally if they want changes, I am happy to discuss any plans with the families and the Foundation.

I am committed to funding the 2014 event and the 2015 event, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the attacks. In addition my office, with the support of the Government, will take the lead role in planning a wider 10th anniversary national remembrance service.
