Question

TfL's improvements to Euston Circus have made the road system less confusing, but have created new dangers which need addressing. There is no cycle lane on Hampstead Road, there is still a left hook at Tottenham Court Road and a big danger at Gower Street with motorised traffic going left whilst cyclists go straight ahead, in the same light phase, with no separation. Will these new problems be addressed in the current 10 year business plan?

The scheme has incorporated improvements for cycling, including removing the left hook potential from Hampstead Road southbound, taking out all left turning buses from Tottenham Court Road northbound and providing an offside bus and cycle lane to provide the connection from Euston Road to the contra-flow flow movement westbound in front of University College Hospital.

Further enhancements to the cycling facilities at Euston Circus will be considered as part of Camden Council's West End project, which is proposing to modify Tottenham Court Road to provide a southbound bus / cycle lane.  In addition, we are considering significant cycling enhancements along the Hampstead Road corridor.
