For several years you have been promising a low emission taxi fund to help drivers pay for the cost of switching to less polluting vehicles, but nothing has ever come of the promises. As it is your intention to make the purchase of 'nearly zero emission' black cabs compulsory from 2018, will you outline a package of financial help as part of your consultation on this?

I announced in January my intention that from 2018 all new taxis must be zero emission capable.

To assist taxi drivers and encourage the early adoption of the new greener vehicles before the 2018 deadline, TfL and I are now exploring a number of supporting measures with the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and are in discussion with the Green Investment Bank around financial options to help the capital's transition to zero emission capable taxis.

TfL will consult on this proposal later this year and details of what financial help will be available to support the purchase of these new vehicles will be provided when we have concluded our discussions with these and other partners.
