Question

This group of young mothers is campaigning for adequate housing so that they can keep their families in London, rather than being moved out as far away as Hastings and Manchester. The London Borough of Newham, where they live, has a long waiting list for social housing, and like all London boroughs is struggling to find private rented accommodation with a landlord that will offer a long tenancy, and at rents that fall below benefit caps. I have found with freedom of information requests that 222 families with children have been moved out of London in the financial year to date. Given that your policies are, in my opinion, clearly inadequate, what more will you do to ensure these mothers can stay in their local area?
