At this stage in the competition, the shortlisted architects are asked to explain their architectural approval for this project, their ability to deliver at this scale and complexity and their ability to present and exchange ideas.

In respect of design approval, the architects will be expected to provide an inspirational and innovative response to the challenge of 'replicating the spirit and design integrity of the original Crystal Palace', whilst also demonstrating understanding of the importance of context and historical precedence, in particular the relationship between the Palace and the Park. They will also have to demonstrate their commitment to the social, environmental and economic sustainability of this project, and their ability to engage with and respond to the public and key stakeholders.

In addition, each architectural team's expertise, track record and ability to work collaboratively will be evaluated.
