Question

Does the Growing Places Fund seek to increase the number of apprenticeships going to under 25s to reduce youth unemployment as suggested in MQ 2246/2013 or for simply increasing the total number of apprenticeship starts in London? Will the evaluation of the Growing Places Fund in relation to apprenticeships look at the breakdown of ages in apprenticeships created as a result of this funding and the impact on youth unemployment in London?

Answer

The funding allocated through the Growing Places Fund to enhance the SME grant offer from £1,500 from £3,000 is targeted specifically at businesses that recruit 16-24 year old apprentices. Increasing the number of apprenticeship opportunities for 16-24 year olds will help to reduce youth unemployment. Details of the evaluation report are not yet available and findings will be made available in April 2014.
