The £8 million London Childcare fund is a Department for Education initiative which the GLA supports.  Within the GLA we have been discussing with DfE how we can best support them in the drive to increase supply of affordable childcare in London and particularly increase 8.00am to 6.00pm care in schools.

On 5 February, the GLA and the Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture, Munira Mirza, hosted a roundtable led by Elizabeth Truss, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Education and Childcare, to bring together Local Authorities from across London to discuss the opportunities for increasing 8.00am to 6.00pm nursery provision in London schools.  One outcome of the meeting was agreement for the Department and Local Authorities to share case studies and examples of good practice to support schools with the potential to offer greater provision.

We are now looking at options for how we might be able to further encourage increased childcare provision through our programme delivery.
