Question

I have received complaints about the lack of adequate pedestrian crossing times at the 'green man' crossing times on the major roads approaching Camberwell Green. Please can you provide the timings of the pedestrian phases at these locations and indicate whether these have been rephased/reduced?

TfL's engineers have checked the crossing times at the two pelican crossings on Camberwell New Road, the one on Denmark Hill, and toucan crossing on Camberwell Church Street. I can confirm that all these crossings meet or exceed the DfT's guidance for crossing times.

The invitation to cross (green man time) is followed by additional time to complete the crossing safely, and I can further confirm that the crossing timings at these locations have not been re-phased or reduced in the last two years.

The timings for the crossings are as follows:

       Camberwell New Rd by Medar Street (Pelican) - 7 seconds invitation to cross, plus 9 seconds to complete the crossing on a flashing green person.

       Camberwell new Rd by Comber Grove (Pelican) - 7 seconds invitation to cross, plus 9 seconds to complete the crossing on a flashing green person.

       Denmark Hill by Orpheus Street (Pelican) - 9 seconds invitation to cross, plus 11 seconds to complete the crossing on a flashing green person

       Camberwell Church Street by Datchelor Place (Toucan) - 7 seconds invitation to cross, plus anywhere between 7 - 27 seconds to complete the crossing (based on pedestrians still on the crossing as identified by the 'on-crossing' detector).
