TfL and the GLA have conducted work which has identified that the redevelopment of a vacated Heathrow site could provide over 40,000 jobs and 80,000 new homes.  Further work has looked at the commercial viability of several detailed scenarios. This work is still being finalised, and will be published in due course. It will also be shared with the Airports Commission.

In their Interim Report, the Commission acknowledge that Heathrow is "a very substantial site for redevelopment" and "supporting the shift of London's economic centre of gravity eastwards to allow for further expected population growth, combined with a major redevelopment opportunity of the Heathrow site, is an alluring prospect".
