Dredging is not likely to be particularly effective in managing flood risk in most locations in London. It can have significant environmental impacts and is an expensive activity that is required to be undertaken on a regular basis.

Some dredging was undertaken as part of works to prepare the River Lee for the 2012 Games but this was primarily for environmental reasons rather than flood risk.

As Chair of my London Waterways Commission you are well placed to seek this information from the Environment Agency, Port of London Authority and the Canals and Rivers Trust.  Please come back to me with any suggestions should you find anything worthy of further action.
