I am keen to ensure street names on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park take into account the views of local people and organizations. However, I have no direct power to impose street names as this process falls within the jurisdiction of the relevant local authority.

Once a street name is proposed, stakeholders and developers must come to an agreement that the street name fits into the naming strategy for the neighbourhood and then an application is made to the relevant local authority.

I am happy for the London Legacy Development Corporation to raise this proposal with the future developer of housing set to be built on Queen Elizabeth Park land within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

As you will be aware we already have a much visited commemorative statue of Nelson Mandela which has occupied a prestigious position in Parliament Square for many years.
