Answer for PCSOs

Answer for PCSOs

PCSOs will continue to play a vital role in keeping London safe, but my budget prioritises the hiring of more regular constables with powers of arrest, and increasing the number of PCs in neighbourhood teams.

By reshaping the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) workforce with fewer chief officers and supervisors, we can afford to have 26,000 police constables - the most in MPS history, and many PCSOs have been recruited as regular officers so they have not been lost to the service.

The new Local Policing Model retains a dedicated named PCSO in every ward in London alongside a dedicated police constable, retaining that local link and providing recognisable faces within the neighbourhood.

These dedicated ward PCs and PCSOs will not be abstracted away to deal with other issues, as was often the case under the old SNT model.
