I welcome the decision to drop the current 'not fit for purpose HS1 to HS2 link' from Phase 1. Further work should now be done with TfL and Network Rail to determine the best answer for London.

As part of my representations, I set out my position to the Secretary of State for Transport on a number of occasions, both in writing and in person.

On these occasions I specifically raised the following concerns:

       The adverse impacts it would have on the North London line, impacting on performance and future growth

       Construction impacts through Camden would be significant to Overground services and the local road network, as well as to local residents and Camden Town businesses

       Only providing a single track link, accommodating a maximum of 3tph (with no potential to expand to double track to cater for domestic as well as future airport markets)

I also made clear my position on the HS2/HS1 link in response to the HS2 consultations on Phase 1 Design (2011), the Draft Environmental Statement (2013) and Design Refinement (2013).  I further reiterated my position in my response to the formal consultation on the Environmental Statement which closed on 27 February 2014 and raised this with David Higgins directly.
