As you know, there is no 'one rule fits all' approach to designing junctions.  The 'early start' facility at Bow Roundabout was specifically designed for that location. TfL has also recently installed innovative low level cycle signals and red cycle aspects at Bow and are currently monitoring cyclists' behaviour with the new signal layout.

TfL is currently undertaking further trials through the Transport Research Laboratory to assess other junction layouts which also include separation in time and space for cyclists. The aim of the off-street trials programme is to provide TfL with a range of options when designing junctions specifically for cyclists in the future.

Subject to all the relevant approvals, TfL aim to implement these innovative cycle specific junction layouts on London's road network during 2015.
