Question

A constituent has complained that the roads through the part of the Crystal Palace Park owned by the GLA are badly potholed, and that potential through-routes for cyclists are blocked by locked gates at the eastern and north eastern entrances to the National Sports Centre where lockable bollards would suffice to block vehicular traffic. Will you look at these issues to improve the conditions for cycling through the park?

The road surface has deteriorated as a result of the recent bad weather. Where possible interim repairs have been undertaken and permanent repairs will take place when the weather allows.

The GLA will make available funding for improvements to the park, as originally planned in the HLF bid, to look at short-term improvements.  It may be that these improvements could be considered as options for this spend, but the demands on the funding will be high, and the improvements will need to be justified in terms of their relationship to any full park restoration that could be achieved if the ZhongRong Group's proposals are forthcoming.

The gates are controlled by LB Bromley and are locked at times to deter anti-social behaviour.
