Were Heathrow to introduce a scheme on the same terms 70,000 homeowners would be eligible for funds. Does this underline why expansion of Heathrow is completely unacceptable?

That tens of thousands more homeowners would be eligible at Heathrow emphasises the scale of Heathrow's noise problem, and why it must not be expanded.

We must also remember that the Gatwick scheme will simply provide double glazing for windows and doors, and loft insulation. The worst impacts of aviation noise are reduced, but not done away with. Even with such schemes, people under the flight paths will still struggle to sleep, schoolchildren will still find learning more difficult, and local air quality problems will persist.
