It is entirely regrettable that Tube customers and hardworking staff suffered disruption due to this unnecessary strike action which was taken despite London Underground's desire and willingness to progress with detailed discussions of its proposals with the trades unions.  LU had of course already made a commitment to staff that there would be no compulsory redundancies and a job for everyone at LU who wants to continue working there and is willing to embrace change.

Further strike action was averted after LU agreed with the trades unions to extend the consultation to April 2014 - something it would have agreed to at any time.  It is, of course, good news that the detailed discussions are back underway and all parties can continue with planning for the future.
