Forecasts suggest that the Northern line extension will have little impact on the number of people entering and exiting Kennington station. To improve passenger flows between the platforms and to relieve crowding at platform level, TfL is planning to construct up to two additional cross passages linking each pair of platforms. TfL's forecasts indicate that levels of crowding on platforms at Kennington station will significantly decrease with the introduction of the Northern line extension and these new cross passages.

In addition to the cross passages, TfL is progressing plans to remodel the ticket hall, increasing capacity and improving passenger flow. This work is estimated to cost £7 million and will be planned to be completed in advance of the Northern line extension. TfL is now progressing this scheme to the concept design stage to develop its plans further and gain a better understanding of cost and programme of delivery.
