The current upgrade of the Northern line and subsequent separation of the southern branches will deliver very significant additional capacity, vital to cope with growing demand and to provide passengers with faster, more reliable journeys.

At Kennington station, subject to the relevant consents being granted for the Northern line extension to go ahead, TfL is planning to construct up to two additional cross passages linking each pair of platforms to improve passenger flows and reduce crowding at platform level. TfL's forecasts indicate that levels of crowding on platforms at Kennington station will significantly decrease with the introduction of the Northern line extension and these new cross passages.
