Answer for Fuel

Answered By:
The Mayor

Officers are drafting a response which will be sent shortly.

Written response from the Mayor 04 September 2013. One hundred and twenty buses are running on B20 bio diesel (20 per cent blend) at Stagecoach London's Barking bus garage. The bio-diesel is sustainably sourced and made from used cooking oil and animal tallow. Blended fuel is being delivered at present though installation of an additional tank and blending equipment at the bus garage is underway so that biodiesel can be blended onsite, saving on fuel transport emissions.

The GLA's waste team recently held a workshop in which representatives from fuel suppliers, collectors and users got together to help understand and address any barriers to establishing a more effective use of London's used cooking oil. TfL and the GLA are currently working with biodiesel suppliers and bus operators with a view to rolling out the use of bio-diesel across more of the fleet.
