According to UCL researchers, 51% of 6,500 children achieved the recommended hour of physical activity, however for girls the figure was just 38% compared with 63% for boys. Given your pledges regarding Olympic legacy and sport for children, can you do anything to encourage children in London to be more active?

Written response from the Mayor A significant proportion of my £22.5 million Sports Legacy Programme is devoted to increasing sports participation amongst London's young people. Through the £16.5 million invested to date, we have: trained 13,000 sports coaches and officials to deliver grassroots sport; built or improved 77 sports facilities across every London Borough; and delivered participation programmes that have benefitted in excess of 250,000 Londoners (approximately 20 per cent of whom were previously inactive).

Many of the projects have been targeted specifically at young people and I will continue to invest in grassroots sports projects to get more girls and boys participating in sport and physical activity.
