Question

Sutton Council has committed £4.5 million to pay for pipes to the Felnex development as part of the heat network envisaged at the Beddington incinerator. What exactly will this pay for? What contribution will Viridor make? Who is paying for the pipework from the edge of the application boundary to Felnex?

Written response from the Mayor Whilst not a party to these discussions or negotiations, I understand that Sutton Council has secured funding to enable it to set up Opportunity Sutton Ltd Energy Service Company (an ESCo) that would fund the installation of pipework from an agreed location on the existing landfill site to the Felnex development in Hackbridge, thereby enabling heat from the landfill to be provided to the new homes. Sutton Council may be able to provide further details on this project and the sums it has committed.

Viridor would be responsible for installing the pipes within the landfill gas engines, and when the ERF facility is commissioned, the ESCO would then put in the pipes that link the ERF to the landfill pipes and enable heat from the ERF to be distributed.
