Fords Dagenham are now facing industrial unrest over redundancies, having pledged that none would be necessary. And neither you, nor the Government, have spoken about the knock-on consequences of the part closure on supplier chains and the local economy. What do you have to say to Londoners about this local catastrophe?

As you will be aware the formal postal ballot (initiated 9th April) concluded on the 1st May, with employees voting against industrial action; 77 per cent supporting Ford's position.

As I stated in my last MQ, Ford has declared its intention to give all affected employees a choice of generous severance package or be offered alternative employment with grade protection at other Ford facilities. Whist there will regrettably be redundancies, the majority will not come into effect until mid-late 2013 and as previously stated, redundancies will be voluntary.

In addition, I have spoken with Ford and have been assured that there are limited impacts on the supply chain. My officers are continuing to meet with Ford on a regular basis to ensure that the GLA offers its full support to any employees affected by the closure of the plant, including those within the supply chain.
