Is there any reason why, in the event of a new globally competitive hub airport being built to the east of London, Heathrow could not continue to exist at a fraction of its current capacity?

There are a number of possible options for the use of the current Heathrow site if a new four runway hub airport were to be built to the east of London. These include an airport reduced in scale and the full or partial redevelopment of the entire site for housing and/or more commercial land uses.

I will carefully appraise the relative merits of these options in terms of their viability, deliverability, environmental impacts, compatibility and benefits in meeting the long term needs of London
