I don't see this is as practical. As part of its engagement with the West End Commission, TfL investigated this suggestion as a way of supporting movement within the West End. There is already good bus network coverage in the area, catering for local movement and TfL continues to minimise the environmental impact of buses through such measures as the deployment of hybrid vehicles and the introduction of NOx filters. The smaller buses could not realistically act as replacement for parts of existing services because they would not have sufficient capacity and adequate interchange facilities would be very difficult to provide.

I am very keen on zero emission buses. TfL will be trialling electric buses later this year and, if these are successful, I am keen to see a wider rollout of zero emission buses, subject to technical feasibility and affordability.

We will continue to engage with Westminster City Council to identify ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality in the West End.
