Question

Why does the Mayor think that patients do not deserve to have a say in pan-London health governance and cooperation, given that he has not made room for HealthWatch on the London Health Board, instead appointing a member of staff from NHS England, instead of the organisations established by his own Government to ensure user voice, and has he done so because he does not believe HealthWatch is sufficiently able or ready to take on this role?

The membership of the Board has been jointly agreed by all partners. The public is represented on the Board by the democratically elected Mayor and council leaders. The Board will call on the expertise of a wide range of organisations to meet its priorities, including HealthWatch and patient/service user groups.

I have appointed Tim Kelsey, National Director for Patients and Information, NHS England, because of his track record in developing a patient-led approach to increasing access to NHS data in order to improve quality of care.
