In a GLA press release in June 2009 you announced that your 'Food to Fuel Alliance', supported by London's Waste and Recycling Board, would aim to deliver five exemplar new 'bio-fuel' plants in the capital by 2012. Can you please provide an update on how many of these bio-fuel plants are currently in operation, and also a review of the Alliance's current work?

Since June 2009 the Mayor has been involved, either through GLA officers, TfL or LWARB in supporting the development of over ten food waste to fuel projects in London. Successes to date include TfL Dial-a-ride bio-diesel trial and investment in the TEG anaerobic digestion plant currently in construction on the Sustainable Industries Park. A further three projects are in development. In addition to the pipeline projects, my focus for the next 12 months will be on increasing the collection, processing and supply of bio-diesel from Used Cooking Oil in London.
