Question

You have recently stated that you support the creation of new free schools, even in areas where there is not necessarily a shortage of places. Given the crisis in many parts of London due to a lack of school places, is this good strategic planning and use of resources?

Free schools form part of the answer to London's school places shortage. But they can do much more: opening great new schools across the capital - whether in an area of shortage or not - will drive up standards and give parents meaningful choice. We want every London child to have not just a school place but a good school place. Working towards this objective represents an excellent use of resources.
