The Estates Strategy will deliver savings of £59 million by 2015/16. However, the primary reason for closing front counters is to reflect changes in how the public are accessing the police and free up police from sitting behind front counters, where they are underutilised, rather than being out in the community where the public want to see them. In addition the MPS is substantially enhancing public access with a 'we come to you' promise, offering all victims of crime an appointment in their own homes or at other convenient locations.
