A significant number of apprenticeship starts are going to people over the age of 25. What are you doing to encourage more young people to undertake apprenticeships, specifically those not in education, employment or training?

I am extremely supportive of any employer who seeks to improve their workforce skills through apprenticeships - across all age-ranges. However, ensuring that more apprenticeships go to 16-24 yr old Londoners is a priority and I am working with the London Enterprise Panel and the National Apprenticeships Service to ensure that we support this. I am ensuring that apprenticeships are a critical part of Skills London 2013, London's largest careers and jobs fair and welcome the Government's new Traineeships programme which will support NEET Londoners into jobs and apprenticeships.
