A planning application has been submitted to Greenwich Council for LED media displays at the Sun-in-the-Sands roundabout. Residents are astounded the application refers to the roundabout as akin to the Euston underpass. What surveys of light pollution, distraction etc did TfL carry out before submitting this application? Are there Londonwide guidelines for such displays or do they vary between the CAZ and residential areas?

In line with TfL's standard practice, an independent highway safety assessment was carried out prior to the submission of the planning application. No issues were identified.

TfL takes into account amenity issues when assessing advertising locations and these are further assessed through the planning process (including a public consultation).

During the planning process no road safety concerns were raised by the statutory consultees.

In the case of this particular site the planning application was declined.

TfL is awaiting the case officer's determination report before considering how to proceed.
